How To Make a Braided Dog Leash
Yo, DogLeashGuy up in your internets again.
This time we are talking about braided dog leashes and in particular, making your very own DIY braided leather dog leash.
I would like to just mention a few things about DIY. First should really enjoy doing crafty projects and have lots of free time. Second,
and I know this from lots of first hand experience, it is often cheaper just to go buy the darn thing you are trying to build yourself. Someone has already spent lots of money perfecting the building process and securing materials as cheaply as possible. When you do something yourself, you have to pay more for the raw materials because you are not buying in bulk, and while you may end up saving a a few bucks in the end, ask yourself before you start, is it really worth the money saved? Going to the store or buying online only costs you a few minutes of your precious time, while doing it yourself could be hours of agrivation, only to give up in the end. Not to be a downer, but for a $20 item, you just really need to
want to do it for the pride of saying you did it yourself!
Now with that out of the way, let’s proceed! I’m not going to lie, I haven’t made a braided dog leash or any dog leashes ever in my life. I have though compiled a few good resources for you to check out if you are interested in trying it for yourself.

So obviously, you are going to need a little hardware, in particular, the snap hook that attaches to the dog’s collar. So you can go find one at a store or order one online, but at that point, you might as well just buy the whole leash. Most people are probably more likely to
cut one off of an old, used dog leash. As far as the actual leash materials are concerned, you have a lot of choices. To me, it would come down to what I have laying around the house or what I could find for free. Remember, it needs to be long. If you want a 6 foot leash, you are going to need 8-10 feet of material because when the material is braided, it is going to be quite a bit shorter than when it is stretched out straight. If you can’t find anything cool around the house, you can buy paracord or other stranded
fabric at your local craft store. Also consider leather which you can pick up at a tack and saddle store, or possibly a shoe repair shop.
So there you have it, DogLeashGuy’s thoughts on making your very own, homemade, DIY braided dog leash.
