Dog Leashes – Both Short and Long

Dog Leashes

When it comes to dog leashes, there are all kinds, both short and long, and a lot of that has to do with on what kind of dog you may have and what kind of culture surrounds it. There are some oddities and habits that contribute to it along the way, and some of it depends on the area you are in.

I wonder if you realize that in the United Kingdom, dog leashes of up to 30 feet are not terribly unusual. Of course, many dogs on the other end of that leash are being trained for hunting purposes. No, you wouldn’t want to walk your dog around the neighborhood with that long of a dog leash. At the other end of the spectrum, some dogs require that a leash be very short. These are usually dogs that you are trying to keep close for purposes of training. You’ve heard the term “keep him on a short leash” when it comes to maintaining a very close eye on someone who can’t be completely trusted just yet. Well, that obviously came right from the canine world!

Remember that when walking your pet, you need to make sure the dog leash is long enough that it doesn’t produce a “choking” effect, but at the same time short enough so that you aren’t going to get it tangled around anything that might be along the path you are traveling. Then you’ve got a problem. You also don’t want that leash tangling around your dog’s neck, or any other part of his or her body. That’s why leather dog leashes are the best, because they don’t present the dog what any real danger in that regard.
